Bill Buchanan Service Award

Criteria for Award:

  1. The nominees shall exhibit a passion for people in a way that brings unity in the community and embraces a commitment to diversity in all areas of life.
  2. The nominees shall be outstanding individuals who have been involved in community service such as board, commissions or community groups and shall have demonstrated a sustained commitment to their communities.
  3. The nominees shall be perceived by the public in their communities as leaders.
  4. The nominees may have been active in local, county or state government.
  5. The nominees may demonstrate, through their civic involvement, how the quality of life in their community has been enhanced.
  6. The nominees shall show a meaningful commitment to address civil rights issues, including but not limited to voting rights, and to authentically bring about positive change in his or her community.
  7. The nominees may or may not have received any compensation for professional services rendered, if any.
  1. Members of the Advancement and Partnership Committee are not eligible to receive the award.

 

Instructions

Nomination Process

Nominate a noteworthy member of the community for one of the Tuscaloosa Civil Rights History and Reconciliation Foundation Awards. Nominations are due by February 15, 2023. A person may be nominated for more than one award, but, if selected, the person will receive only one award. Posthumous nominations are accepted.

  • Describe in 250 words or less why the nominee should receive the award. The letter should include the nominee’s community service and contributions to the community; and how it aligns with the purpose, eligibility, and/or criteria of the award.

Support letter(s)

  • Supporter name, including prefix (Dr., Ms., Rev., etc.)
  • Job title
  • Organization
  • Mailing address
  • Email address
  • Phone number(s)
  • One support letter is required (250 words or less); a second support letter from another person is optional, but strongly encouraged. To assist the selection committee in its deliberations, the support letter(s) should contain information not addressed in the recommendation letter. The support letter(s) should list of nominee’s most significant achievements.
